Alumni carry something a textbook cannot: a credible, recent answer to "why does this actually matter?" A former student now working in a related field can make an abstract topic concrete in a single short talk in a way that is hard for anyone else to replicate.
The most successful alumni programs keep the ask small and specific — a 20-minute guest talk, a recorded Q&A, a handful of mock interviews — rather than an open-ended volunteer commitment that is easy to say yes to and then quietly avoid.
A simple, well-maintained contact list segmented by field or graduation year is often the only real infrastructure needed to turn an alumni network from a nice idea into a recurring classroom resource.
